Ganahl Lumber & 17 West Honored with 2018 PCBC Gold Nugget Merit Awards
Withee Malcolm Architects is proud to be among the Merit Award winners for the 2018 PCBC Gold Nugget Awards—Ganahl Lumber’s Torrance Yard earned a Merit Award in the Best Commercial Project – 20,000 sf & Over category; 17 West in Costa Mesa was named a Merit Award winner in the Best Community Land Plan category.
In Ganahl Lumber’s newest location in Torrance, the design team created a retail environment that challenged perceptions of how a lumber store should look, feel and function. The architecture showcases the company’s passion for innovation and demonstrates the versatility of wood as a strong and elegant building material.
17 West’s Community Plan connects to the existing network of city streets and is organized around a central park through a network of paseos. The park, with barbecue areas, bocce courts, trellis areas, and tot lots, serves both the 17 West neighborhood and The Place, the newly built residential community adjacent to the site.
PCBC’s Gold Nugget Awards are presented annually to the top innovators in design, planning and development. The competition is open to builders, developers, architects and land planners with communities and projects across the United States and internationally.
