Via, an affordable apartment community developed in two phases, revitalized a formerly vacant, city-owned lot within the Carson Street corridor, one of the City of Carson’s major thoroughfares.
Phase 1, Via 425, included 65 new apartment homes for families, as well as, on-site amenities for residents such as a 3,000-square-foot community center that hosts social services, a computer room, fitness room, children’s play area and laundry facilities. Via 401, located across a private drive from Phase I, completes the development with 40 new units.
The clean lines, careful massing and solid materiality of the contemporary California architecture reinforce an urban edge along Carson Street that creates a vibrant street environment and encourages pedestrian activity. Organized around an internal, central drive, which serves as the formal entrance, the plan places three and four-story townhouses on the main street and lower two-story units facing an adjacent single family neighborhood at the back.
